Sada chicken kills 1 sickens 1,700
Roast chicken produced
by Sada, a Dutch-owned Spanish firm, has been identified as the source of a
Salmonella outbreak, which has killed one and left 1,700 ill in Spain.
The
outbreak began last week and over four days the incidents of salmonella-related
sickness rose steadily, reaching 1,700 and resulting in the death of a 90 year
old man.
The tainted meat was withdrawn from sale and according to the
Spanish ministry of health the rate of new infections slowed.
Sada said the
contamination originated in a pipe at its plant that poured sauce onto the meat
before packing.
Consumer rights groups in Spain are encouraging those
afflicted to come forward and file a suit against the company.
